President's Letter

We hope you are busy creating beautiful works of art for the museum competitions and
contests at the Upper Midwest Regional Porcelain Art Show in Dubuque, IA, on April 26, 27, 28,
2018 (see our ad in this magazine). The four contests: Teapots, Teapots, Teapots; What Ever
Strikes Your Fantasy; Celebrating All Holidays; and Our Natural World, provide you with a wide
range of subject matter. The venue, overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River, is one you will
be sure to enjoy. At the show, be prepared to shop with the vendors, learn new techniques and
ideas at the paint-a- longs and demonstrations, or take a trolley ride and tour a beautifully
restored Victorian Home. Silent and live auctions will be held along with a raffle. Fun evening
entertainment also awaits you. An accordion player, a pianist, a jazz singer, and tuxedo clad
gentlemen will all make an appearance. Be part of the fun! Put together an inexpensive
costume from what you have in your closet or from the nearest thrift store. A skirt, white
apron, white top, a vest, and a wreath of flowers for your hair will work perfectly for Thursday
evening’s “Polka Party”. For the Friday evening’s “A Downton Abbey Dinner”, a skirt, tunic
length top, and a long necklace could be from the Edwardian era. There is also the famous
flapper era to choose from. Perhaps you would like to be more formal and dress for the
Victorian era. Don’t forget the upstairs, downstairs staff. Keep it simple and just have fun!
Illinois will be hosting an April in Pairs breakfast on Saturday. You won’t want to miss this show.

A reminder to all Iowa members, the Spring Board Meeting is 10:00 am, March 24, at the Story
City Community Center.
